PRAXIS II: Bomb N' Blonde
PRAXIS II: Bomb N' Blonde
In a previous album description (Blonde), I spoke about a band split over a name? Not the first time, but the second time of course and this time it was because I wanted to change it, rather than keep it (first reason for musicians to leave the band due to the whole: “Naked Blonde” thing…no one understood postmodernism then…shouldn’t they have though?). Now I don’t know if it was coercion, boredom or just being sick and tired of being sick and tired of explaining to people we weren’t talking about naked girls or boys-although I would like to share a funny story if I remember to tell it sometime-anyway…I think I was just tired of being turned down jobs because of our name-The band that inspired me to form a band was called “The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies” for crying’ out loud-who recently I noticed changed their name to “The Daddies”. I guess they gave in as well. No matter, I know who they are and they still SWING. In regard to “Naked Blonde”, changing the name was off the table for my old band mate though. His integrity was real toward our original vision: “raw truth, with a nice delivery: Naked Blonde”-wicked drummer, pure-clean-whimsical pipes with the ability to harmonize to a washing machine and make it sound like angels-angels in a sewing circle of song. A true band mate…and truly adamant that we would not change the name. We split.
This all happened around the time we were finishing up our album “Blonde”. I don’t remember how, but I managed to be referenced some horn players from our local high-school to record on that project. We never released that recording with the horns (Smirk). Maybe some day I will. However, a few of those musicians became a part of the next project I wanted to be workin’ on, “Bomb n’ Blonde”. This project came at a time I was becoming more serious about singing and far more interested in Doo-Wop music rather than aiming to lose my voice after every practice. I think my aunt called it,”screaming”.
These recordings are taken from November 27, 2014-October 7, 2015. Some are recorded In my car (The Time Machine), most in my parents garage, another in a band mates garage and…I think that’s about all the locations to speak of.
All in all, with the help of these young musicians I really got to be part of something cool. It was and is such a blessing. I hope our preparations for our end product will be a blessing to you as well (in other words, our mistakes-mostly mine-and victories), if not that at the very least, I pray this will be an encouragement for your God given PRAXIS. Thanks for listening…Now go play
