Great stuff, Dweezil.  Thank you for this.

Loved episodes 6&7! Runnin' With The Dweezil is my favorite podcast series ever! It's informative, hilarious... surprising. You're creating possibly THE definitive analysis of the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Thank for all the extras which are well worth the wait. I'm in no hurry for this to end, so another vote for taking your time so we can all savor the flavor.

Episode 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Listening to it as I type this...love it.  Thank you Dweezil, well worth the wait

Dweezil

Hey Dweezil.
It’s come up a few times in the podcast: the “tinkle” noise at the beginning of Runnin’ With the Devil. I’ve always seen it described and transcribed as raking the strings behind the nut. Doing that never sounded right but I figured it was different guitars or some other variable. Recently I happened to rake the strings on a Gibson between the Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar and there it was! Just like the song. Normally I wouldn’t make a public announcement over something so trivial, but this is the level of detail I’ve really enjoyed on these podcasts and though I’d share mine. Keep up the great work; it is appreciated

Eddie used the Ibanez Destroyer to record “Runnin’ With The Devil’ and it is indeed a rake behind the Tune-O-Matic bridge. Interestingly, he does it THROUGHOUT the recording, not just in the intro. This occurs in many instances when he is holding the D triad at the 7th fret of the D, G and B strings. You can hear it if you listen carefully to the isolated track.

I demonstrate this in a clip I made with my own 1976 Ibanez Destroyer which is tuned to the correct tuning offset that Eddie used on the album:

Dweezil

Nice demonstration! Sounds great.

Thanks very much! It blew my mind when the soloed tracks came out and you could really hear the extra “behind the bridge rakes” DURING the song in addition to the well known one that kicks off the tune. Now I can’t un-hear it, even when I listen to the finished album version!

On a related note, I’m not playing the riff quite right in this clip because I’m not getting the quick pick scrape into the riff. I know you have mentioned how Ed showed you that quick pick scrape part when he showed you how to play the whole riff on that fateful day...can you describe or demonstrate how to perform that pick scrape in combination with the standard left hand slide? I recall you mentioning that he showed you how he held the pick for this part as well. Of all the work I’ve done on transcribing Ed over the last 30 plus years, I STILL struggle with that one little pick slide and integrating it properly into the riff!

Hi Dweezil,

I’m loving the podcast!
Hey, have you thought about doing an episode with Phil X (Bon Jovi, The Drills)?
He’s a HUGE EVH fan.

Cheers!

Hey Dweez don't worry about getting behind with your schedule i'm sure it bothers you but you'll get it. This program of interviews you've put together is just freaking unheard of and i would pay twice what i gave you to listen to all these guitar hero's talk about Eddie and what his guitar/musical wizardry did for us all. You need a hard drive? You need a computer? Whatever? Just let me know and i'll fix you up! Anyhow hang in there your amazing and we love you, best of luck.

Brian C.

What I've listened to so far, is pure gold magic. I don't have any musician folk in my life that I can talk about things Edward, and how much he inspired my life as a musician. I feel like I'm sitting in a room with my buds, just rapping about Eddie. Sometimes going "Yeah right!!!???" or "Wow! I never heard that!". Thank you Dweezil, you are making history here. I love you man!!!!!

Somebody get Dweez a doctor!

Dweezil

"Feelin' no pain

Overloaded" - That's for sure!

Feel better man ... to quote jim carrey dumb and dumber ... don't you go dyin on me!

Dweezil

Hi Everyone,

I know you're all chomping at the bit waiting for part 2 and I appreciate your patience. While I was pushing hard to get it done I ended up getting sick and had to take some time off to rest. I'm just as anxious as all of you to get it finished and delivered for you to enjoy. As soon as I can I will post it, just have to get past this sore throat and fever. Best, DZ

Hope you feel better!!

Hi, Dweezil, hope you feel better soon! I just wanted to express my appreciation for this podcast. Not only are they very insightful, but they’ve given me huge inspiration in learning more Van Halen riffs, licks, and solos! Thanks again for all your hard work! This is truly a gift!!

Get some rest. Although I know the “downtime” will probably have your head spinning with even more creative ideas you’ll be wanting to execute! Lol. You’ve clearly been getting inspired making these podcasts into little audio movies. I’m digging it and we are all benefiting from it. Hope you feel better. Stay safe.

Speedy recovery!

feel better Dweez...

First things first, hope you're feeling better soon! Take care

Hope you feel better soon, Dweezil! All my best to you!!

Take care and wish you a speedy recovery...  Loving the podcast so far - amazing stuff!

Get well soon.

Hope you feel bette Dweezil. Vitamin D, C and zinc....

Dweezil

Thanks Mark! Working indoors all time gives you "studio tan" and proper vitamin D from the sun is definitely something I could use.

Feel Better Dweezil! Thank you for doing all that you are doing - absolutely love all of these podcasts and all of your hard work!

I love these!!! However, I bought the 5150 bundle but only have access to the first 6 episodes, how do I get the rest?

You have access to the first six because that's all that's been released thus far. Dweezil had some computer problems in December and has been working on catching up the best he can. So, just chill while the fantastic content keeps rolling.

Dweezil

It's true, the episodes are still in production so only 6 have been released so far. Thanks for your patience and I'm glad you're enjoying the podcast so far. Part 2 of the Nuno Bettencourt episode is shaping up to be a landmark for all things concerning Fair Warning.

Honestly, I can't say enough just how great this podcast has been thus far!! Along with Eddie's passing, it's inspired me to finally learn the guitar after all these years. I tried to learn to play at age eleven, learned some basics but didn't stick with it out of frustration. I wanted to be as great as Eddie, Nuno and you, Dweezil!! I became a singer instead but always regretted not sticking with it. It's never too late I guess and I owe it to that youth within me! btw the Confessions record was and will always be a special record to me, still such a fun listen!! Lastly, what advice would you give a 43 year old aspiring guitarist? Thanks for this podcast and the influence, Dweezil!

These are really Great!

* I've tried to add a pic for my avatar but it doesn't show up on my profile. ?

Hi , try clicking on your picture icon at the top right of the screen - next to the shopping cart - this should open up your profile and on the left hand side when you scroll down you should see where you can update your image / edit data etc.... . Hope this helps ?

Rich.B - Thanks! I did try that several times on my desktop but nothing. Just tried it using my iPhone and success

Dweezil when your done with the whole EVH series, you and Blues need to do a weekly podcast! It could be on anything, gear talk, classic albums, recording, touring, ect. You and Blues are so fun to listen to and it comes off very natural. It is easy to hear that you both enjoying hanging out with each other and have a great relationship along with some awesome stories. I laughed so hard on the paper bag story. And yeah I would pay for weekly podcast of Dweezil & Blues!

Cool idea!

That's an awesome idea, Michael H!

Excellent idea!

can you make all downloads mp3 so I dont have to convert?

Dweezil

Hi Bennett,

It's a bit of a quandary because I am offering the hi quality files and there are folks who definitely want the lossless files. I'm not sure I'll be able to offer mp3s and FLAC or Wave files. Maybe we can revisit this a little later on.

thanks for getting back to me, it seemed like some were mp3 and some were flac, so I thought it was an oversight. NBD!...on a separate note, PLEASE spend a lot of time on 5150 and live without a net. both are really influential to the generation just after yours. I think 5150 and summer nights are 2 of the best songs in the entire catalog. Also, the sole in LWAN combines, eruption, cathedral, etc and, to me is the definitive live version.

Give Dweezil a break, and quit auditioning for the 1st string skin flutist spot. It's not like he's supplying a heart or liver transplant.  The episodes that have been produced so far have been awesome, so let's give him some room to continue his streak.

It would be nice to know when the episodes are coming. Or that they will show up when they show up. But to be told to expect a certain day and not see it is disappointing.  Doesn't help that it is difficult to know where to get an update...instragram,  a blog post?

I end up refreshing this page twice a day just in case the next episode is there. Again, not a big deal but neither is someone asking when they should expect it.

Dweezil

Hi Miles,

Sorry for the delay. I'm working hard to finish the episode. There won't always be delays but the last few weeks have had some unavoidable delays, starting with computer hard drive issues that ate up a lot of time to get sorted. Even though I got behind I didn't want to decrease the quality of the episodes so I've really been working overtime to get these things done, more than 10 hours a day.

I do think you'll notice that Fair Warning episode 2 has extra layers of detail and then it may make more sense as to why it took longer to finish it.

Anyway, thanks for your patience and understanding. I hope to get the episode up on the site ASAP.

Best, DZ

I’m not sure why your mind or mouth goes in that direction right to start off with but that’s all on you ... no one is critical of anything, I too have enjoyed every episode  thus far  which is why we eagerly await all week the next episode to come out on Thursday at 3:00 pst. Also, why we check back so often hoping to catch the next installment. Anyways, Dweezil is the man and I love the content so far. You my friend , the critic, pal (largo circa 198o ish), you know who you are, can do what Dave told the critic and mind you own business for one thing.

Dweezil

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for chiming in. I don't like disappointing the faithful listeners who are eagerly awaiting the next episodes. I apologize for the wait time. I've been trying very hard to keep the episodes on schedule but my computer problems set me back a few weeks ago and I'm still trying to catch up. I also put in an extreme amount of overtime to make Fair Warning extra special. Part 2 has some really cool and fun stuff in it and I appreciate your patience. It's almost finished. It really takes time to create the transitions and flow of the extra content and I think you will enjoy the results when you hear the episode.

In any case, I'm working hard to finish Fair Warning part 2 and my hope is to have it up on the site today before 3pm PST. That's what I'm shooting for at least.

Thanks again for your patience everyone. As I've said before, future episodes won't have as much post production so I should be able to get back to a normal schedule.

Best, DZ

Where’s the episode ?

Dweezil

Sorry, I'm still working on it! When you hear it you will know why it has taken so long. I appreciate your patience.

Oh yea. Part 2 today sir

Dweezil

Hi Jim,

I'm working hard on part 2. I have still have so much left to do so I unfortunately I won't make the deadline today. Sorry!!! Check out my blog which gives a little info on what to expect for the next episode.
